Jam Version Update (v1.0 JAM)


This will be the last update to the jam version (unless a game-breaking bug shows up). Here’s what’s new in this build:


Graphics:

  • I redesigned the player sprite sheet. The old one was cool, but the arms looked oddly placed and the arm-to-leg proportions were a little bit strange. The new one ditches his overalls and is now styling pants, with a cool belt and a dark tee. He holds his cowboy hat with a hand and rises his other hand only when holding a sheep or wolf. (Also… he’s grown by one pixel in height!)
  • Rearranged the sheep sprites to make room for the new player sprite tiles. There's no visual changes.
  • There are two new little visual cues for the player: when you reach a high score during gameplay, the small bell next to the score counter starts to shake. Also, in timed modes, once you drop below 20 seconds, the hourglass begins to move too!
  • Updated the disclaimer “this game was made in less than 3 weeks…” to say "less than 4 weeks", both on the itch.io page and in the in-game credits. I ended up working more than planned, but finishing a game in less than 4 weeks of work is still pretty neat!
  • I had to update the player sprite across all itch.io page images... I hope at least someone notices...

Sound:

  • When you use the START button to pause the game, now all four sound channels will be muted, so there won't be any music playing in that menu. Whenever you exit this menu to continue playing the game, the music will come back.

Others:

  • Updated one of the tutorial dialogue boxes: it now explains that sheep can be thrown across the screen, making it clear you don’t have to walk right up to the fence to score a throw. There were some people that didn't get this straight up.
  • Now the rom will be named sheepsplit_v1.0_jam.gbc and there will only be one file and not two. Yeehaw!


I want to thank everyone who has played the game in any of its versions, and everyone who has downloaded it. This has been such a great experience for me. See you at the end of September or the beginning of October, when I plan to start working on the final version!
